INSIDE OUTSIDE OVERLAP
A BOY PRIEST AND LIFEFORM THE "CAT" ADVENTURE
by Billy Mavreas

>> Look inside the book

Evolved from ascent magazine's regular comic strip feature this first graphic novel by Montreal artist Billy Mavreas recounts a hero's journey, from the hidden murk of the subconscious to the heights of potential and self - healing. Told with whimsy, symbolism and emotional honesty, and carefully rendered in subtle tones of grey, this cartoon journey is like no other.

In this evocative illustrated escapade, Boy Priest, a young ceremonial magician, is plagued with nightmarish visions that rise from deep within to unsettle him. With the aid of his magic Vase, he performs a ritual that brings him face to face with the psychic junk that's been pestering him. Will he clear away the cobwebs and return refreshed to the everyday? Will he close the Pandora's box that's been thrown open? Or get trapped under the lid?

Praise for Inside Outside Overlap

"Charming and enigmatic."
- R. Sikoryak, cartoonist, Nickelodeon Magazine, Drawn & Quarterly

"This book may be the finest work to date of this truly visionary cartoonist. Multiple levels of narrative are revealed in each subsequent perusal of this beautiful, intricately-rendered story of a warrior's journey that manages to be reverent and irreverent all at once."
- Joe Ollmann, author of It Will All End In Tears, winner of the Doug Wright award

"This story is a drug-trip, sickness, dream, escape, spiritual hallucination, and will be loved by kids as much as adults. Great work, Billy!"
- Matt Shane, Drawn & Quarterly Bookstore

Praise for Mavreas' previous work:

"Mavreas' comics eschew traditional narrative in favour of time-jumping, spacewarping, organic flows of controlled ink."
- HOUR magazine, Montreal

"Mavreas' work shows an exquisite equilateral balance of the silly, the scary and the sublimely beautiful."
- Montreal Mirror

"A mix of David Lynch, funny animals, surrealism and atavistic paganism."
- Claude Lalumière, Montreal Gazette.

"Ornate, carefully and intricately wrought, cute, hilarious, disturbing, it's all there on the page."
- Josh Dolgin, Hour Magazine

BILLY MAVREAS is a Greek-Canadian artist living in Montreal whose mostly silent comics revolve around the themes of language, sexuality and spirituality. In 2001, Conundrum Press & Crunchy Comics published his collection of shorts entitled The Overlords Of Glee, wherein trickster deities disguise themselves as semi-cute, semi-sinister bunnies. Since 2004, he has drawn a quarterly strip for ascent magazine, "Tales from the Vase."
